ABOUT US
Having lived in Uralla most of our lives, we have also travelled away and lived in cities both in Australia and overseas. Somehow we always knew we'd return to Uralla, it's an amazing place to live, filled with some wonderful personalities and a beautiful landscape.
On the 12th April 2012 our first guest arrived - and so did our second child. A month early and demonstrating a flair for the dramatic that she still possesses, Helena wasn't exactly part of the welcoming committee for our first guest, but she and elder brother Jacob have been a very special part of our journey.
Since opening our 2 bedroom cottage to guests in April 2012 we haven't looked back. This has been something we have worked towards since we started building with Tara's father Greg in 2005 and we are thoroughly enjoying every minute of it. Our mission is to provide a cosy and spacious place to stay, somewhere that families can catch up and travelers can relax - while enjoying some great local food and country hospitality in our beautiful hometown. We source almost all of our products from local markets and farmers, so guests are always treated to a generous breakfast basket and some fresh home cooking - our specialty.
In 2014 we started a new venture, a gathering of New England producers, makers and creators called Seasons of New England (www.seasonsofnewengland.com.au), and this has continued to grow attracting over 6,000 patrons and growing.
And because we do love building (it's all about the journey, right?), we built a new shed with our own commercial kitchen at long last in mid 2017. This has meant Tara could take her love of confectionery creations to a whole new level, incorporating hot chocolate blends, teas, more confectionery and a growing range of condiments. The new kitchen meant a new venture and so The Humble Cook was born. Situated towards the front of our 5 acre block (well away from the Cottage), the new shed is a busy spot and Tara is always happy to share her creations with our guests. Current stockists of The Humble Cook range include Little Birdy (Hill St, Uralla) and the Armidale Visitor Information Centre in Armidale. Three times a year (Mother's Day, Spring and Christmas) Tara gathers with some good friends to run The Pop Up Store at a random location in Armidale, another opportunity to support other creative souls with around 12 other businesses sharing the space to create a vibrant retail venture.
Here's hoping we get to cross paths one day soon,
Tara, Andrew, Jacob & Helena Toomey
